Using Cedar Graphics' FTP site file drop-off
Now you can send your production files – even very large ones – digitally from anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection.

This process requires a few steps:
Cable, DSL, T1 or other high-speed broadband connection to the Internet. Customers with dial-up connection should burn their files to CD and overnight it to us.

If you DO NOT use an FTP Application
Click the link below to access the Cedar Graphics browser-based site. Login with your FTP account login name and password. If you do not have an FTP account set up, contact your Cedar Graphics account representative.

https://webftp.cedargraphicsinc.com

Click and drag your files into an appropriate folder, or create your own folder. For example, use the job description as the folder name. Then drop the files into that folder. You should see a timer or thermometer bar indicating that files are being up- or down-loaded, and receive notice when the file transfer is complete.

This process can take from a few minutes to several hours depending on your connection speed and file size. For files larger than 400 MBs (total) we recommend you burn a CD and send it overnight to:

If you would like to use our FTP site but do not have a user name and password, e-mail  Sales@cedargraphicsinc.com  with your name, company, and desired username and password.

Electronic Imaging Guidelines
When preparing files for submission, please follow CREF (Computer Ready Electronic File) guidelines. These include:
  • Be sure the file you provide us on disk is the most current one.
  • Include laser, dye sublimation, or ink jet proofs at 100% of the file size with your disk. Any changes we are to make to the file should be indicated on those proofs. These proofs should match the file on disk, not an earlier version.
  • Label all media with your company name and job name.
  • Include all screen (bitmap) fonts and all printer (postscript) fonts. Please do not use attributes. For example, if you want Helvetica Bold Italic, select Helvetica Bold Italic in the font menu. DO NOT select Helvetica and then use the bold and italic attributes in the type style menu. The file may look fine on screen, but the type will not be the same as actually selecting the proper font and the copy may reflow. Font problems of one form or another are the single biggest reason for bad files.
  • Use the right application for each task. All documents submitted to us should be created in a page layout program, i.e.: QuarkXPress, InDesign, Page Maker, Frame Maker, etc. Support files may be created in other applications. We recommend drawing-based programs like Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand for vector-based illustrations and Adobe Photoshop for pixel-based images. While the drawing-and-picture editing applications could be used for designing a whole flyer or catalog, there are significant time and file size issues that arise.
TIP:  We often set up font folders for individual clients. This saves having to send fonts with every job. Please be sure we have ALL the appropriate fonts for your job(s); anytime you add new fonts, provide them with the job.
  • Mark images as live or FPO (For Position Only) on lasers. On images that are FPO, identify the high-res file to be placed. We encourage the use of FPOs and can provide them from our scans at no charge. These low-res files will be linked to the high-res file when we plot film; the position of the high-res image will be exactly the same as the low-res file. If the low-res file is sized in the page layout application, that sizing will be applied to the high-res image. Remember though, this type of sizing is not recommended if the change is over +/- 10%. If the scan is the wrong size, it is better to tell us what change to make to the high-res image. We will make the changes in Photoshop to maintain optimum quality.
  • Include all supporting artwork, including electronic line art from drawing programs (Illustrator, Freehand, Painter, etc.) and any electronic scans. Scans should be at a resolution of 300 dpi at the size they will be used in the document. It is not necessary to provide low resolution/FPO scans. The electronic layout will hold a low-res placement image for us to use as a guide. If you are providing a live high-res scan, indicate so on your comp if it is to print.
