Every day we use products that require a laundry list of manufacturing processes that go over the heads of most people, but what about print? Ever wondered how the designs and products that we use every day go from inside our heads to ink on the page? Well, wonder no more. On September 17, 2015, Cedar Graphics will partner with the American Advertising Federation of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City’s (AAF-CR/IC) Think To Ink event, an entire day devoted to amazing speakers, tours, vendor samples, and free food!
Two speakers will be joining us to discuss such topics as design, creativity, brand identity, and marketing. The first is Von Glitschka, principal of Glitschka Studios (a multi-disciplinary design firm in Salem, Oregon). Following Glitschka is Trish Witkowski who is the President of Rock the Malbox and Chief Folding Fanatic at foldfactory.com. Both of our guest speakers will provide awesome insight into the inner workings of the minds of some of the print industry’s stars.
Glitschka studios does a variety of work for ad agencies, design firms, and businesses of all kinds and locales. Von will be speaking to us about design & creativity, brand identity and marketing. He has written six books, and is a contributor to the design courses on Lynda.com. He has also been a featured speaker at South By Southwest and TEDx.
Following Von Glitschka’s presentation will be a free lunch provided by Burgerfeen (just in case you still needed some persuading, who turns down free food?), followed by our Open House and Paper Vendor Fair. Some of the participants in the Paper Vendor Fair include such big name brands as GPA, Veritiv, Domtar, Mohawk, HP, and Neenah Paper.
The Open House will give you the opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at the way things work at Cedar Graphics. You’ll get to see our production facilities, bindery, offices, and pre-press department. You’ll also get to take a peek at our brand-spanking-new HP Indigo 7800 & 10000.
After lunch, we will be joined by Trish Witkowski. Trish is an award-winning author and designer who specializes in direct mail and marketing. Like us, she’s a big fan of print, and curates a very interesting collection of folded print and direct mail samples. Her popular e-series “60-second Supercool FOLD of the WEEK” showcases exciting new and reimagined uses of folding in print, whether it’s a direct mail piece or a capabilities brochure. Trish got her MS in printing and BFA in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
